Real Estate Photography Tips
Taking Exterior Shots

Get out of your car. You will not get a decent picture shooting from inside your car.

Do not shoot into the sun. The back lighting of the sun will cause lens flares that will reduce contrast, focus, color and readability of the image.

Determine what time of day is best? Determine which direction the house faces. If it faces East, morning may be best. West, evening. North or South may be either. You are best off to scout the site to determine best time.

Find the best angle. Compose the shot to show the front entry way if possible. If a tree obstructs the view you may consider a detail shot of the entry way from near or inside the tree line perhaps using the foliage to partially frame the shot.

Remove undesirable objects from the shot. Trash, toys, real estate signs, garden hose, lawn mower, vehicles from the driveway.

Avoid including utility poles, wires, neighboring houses, street vehicles in the shot.

Professional photographers wet down the walkways and drive before the shoot. This creates color and depth on the surface, reduces glare and provides a cleaner appearance.
